Meet OUR: The Good Government Podcast
By Ashlyn Huff
Here in the United States, politics are a rowdy affair. Scandals and drama dominate news cycles, leaving many ordinary people feeling overwhelmed. According to data from Pew Research, close to two-thirds of Americans simply tune out the noise, and understandably so. This, however, does not bode well for the future of our democracy. Which is precisely why The Good Government Show is so important.
The Good Government Show is a nonpartisan podcast focused on exploring the untold stories of public servants, from mayors to governors, and examining the crucial work they do behind the scenes. They hope to provide an unfiltered look at the people in government, without the bias of mainstream media. In the words of co-host David Martin, the Good Government Show is an “antidote,” not just to our divided times, but to a broader distrust of people in government.
As part of their mission, The Good Government Show uses the OUR platform to directly connect with their listening audience. Participants can give unfiltered answers on contentious issues like the Israel-Palestine Conflict or the Texas voter redistricting efforts, all while remaining cordial. Unlike other social networking platforms, OurCo communities like The Good Government Show promote open conversations and a sense of unity. There is simply no room for toxic arguments, something the podcast’s hosts cherish deeply.
Co-host David Snyder called the possibilities with OurCo “very exciting.” It provides a platform for the show’s ideas to come full circle, with audience members asking questions that can be answered in future episodes. For Snyder and Martin, OurCo is a way to get immediate feedback from an otherwise disparate audience, an idea unthinkable only a few years ago.
This praise is not unwarranted; Snyder and Martin are both seasoned media professionals, with experience at places like PBS and CBS. Despite the wealth of options at their disposal, one platform remains best for their mission: OurCo.
Going forward, the Good Government Show hopes to only increase their use of OUR. Their show always wants to find the “pulse” of a community, and the OUR platform has emerged as one of the best ways to do so. If they can create a positive feedback loop of engagement and podcast listening, the show’s message will only reach more people. Fundamentally, the OUR platform was created to empower ordinary people, and to give a voice to the voiceless while rebuilding the communal trust that this country was founded upon. The Good Government Show, as well as their OurCo efforts, are a shining example of what that looks like.
